Bubble Bath

She walks into the bathroom and turns on the water for the bathtub. She always has an issue with getting the temperature just right for a bath, but never a shower, so you, lying on your side on the bed listening to the glass door of the tub slide, know that she will not be as happy with the temperature of the water as she would like when she finally sinks into it.

"Bubble bath?" you call into the bathroom. The door is slightly ajar, and the light is sloping into the dark bedroom.

"Bubble bath!" she calls back. Her voice sounds muffled, and you think she may be taking off her shirt in this moment.

You have always been amused by the way her hair streams free from her t-shirt hole whenever she takes her t-shirt off. Naturally, her dresses, which simply drop from her curves and onto the floor, do not have this effect, but you cannot complain about dresses coming off, like a cover coming off and revealing a gift from a game show. And you know she is the best gift of all.

She always enjoys hotel rooms that have a bathtub looking out at whatever city the two of you may be in. Your bathroom does not offer such a luxury, but you try to give her such views two or three times a year.

The way natural light shines on her somewhat wet face and how bits of her soaked hair stick to her neck as she surveys the skyline is a view you have never grown tired of. But tonight she is drawing a bath in your small, windowless bathroom.

"Sounds nice," you say, sitting up on the bed. You wish you could join her, but your tub is a tub meant for one.

"Sure does," she replies. You hear her foot go into the water. "Too hot." The water comes on again.

After you hear her entire body slip into the tub, you get up and walk toward the door. You peek your head into the bathroom. She is looking at you, bubbles up to her chin.

"You look comfy," you say, smiling.

"I am comfy," she says, smiling with her teeth.

"How's the temperature?"

"Maybe a little too warm. But it'll cool."

"How are the bubbles?"

"They're perfect."

She closes her eyes and rests her head against the tile wall. She does not have a skyline view, but in this moment, in this windowless bathroom, she is the best thing you have ever seen. And you know she is the best gift of all.
